Product basics:
Will it fit my Brita jug?
Yes — Returnabl fits almost all Brita-compatible jugs including Brita Maxtra, Maxtra+, Perfect Fit, Marella, Maxtra Pro, Aqua Optima, Tesco, AmazonBasics and Wilko jugs. It also works with Morphy Richards and Russell Hobbs filter kettles. If your jug currently uses a Brita Maxtra+ cartridge, it will fit
How do I refill it?
Simply twist open the cartridge, pour in a fresh refill pouch of activated carbon granules, close it back up, and rinse under cold water for 30 seconds before placing back in your jug. Full step-by-step instructions are at returnabl.com/pages/refillable-filter-instructions.
How long does one refill pouch last?
Each refill pouch lasts approximately 30 days or 200 litres of filtered water, whichever comes first. For an average household using 2-3 litres per day, that's roughly one month per pouch.
How long should I leave the filter submerged in water after assembly?
Leave it submerged until no more bubbles come out.
How many times should I run water through the filter before using it?
2 times
How do I know when it needs refilling?
We recommend changing your refill pouch every 30 days regardless of usage. A simple way is to set a monthly phone reminder on the day you first installed it. The water may also begin to taste slightly different as the carbon becomes saturated — that's your signal it's time to refill.
Can I reuse the cartridge indefinitely?
Yes — the cartridge itself is designed to last for years. You only replace the refill granules inside it each month, not the cartridge. This is what makes Returnabl so much cheaper and less wasteful than disposable alternatives.

FILTRATION
What does it filter out?
Returnabl filtration reduces chlorine, microplastics, limescale, herbicides, pesticides, lead and other heavy metals.
Is it safe to drink?
Yes. Our coconut shell activated carbon refill granules are independently tested and certified to NSF 61, EN12915 and AWWA B604-96 international standards — the same standards used by major water filter manufacturers.
What certifications does it have?
Our refill granules are certified to NSF 61 (US/international drinking water safety), EN12915 (European water treatment standard) and AWWA B604-96 (American Water Works Association standard for granular activated carbon).
ORDERS & DELIVERY
How quickly will my order arrive?
All UK orders are dispatched within 24 hours and delivered within 2-3 working days. Free delivery on all orders.
Do you offer free delivery?
Yes — free UK delivery on all orders, no minimum spend.
Can I set up a regular refill subscription?
Yes — you can subscribe and save on your refill pouches at returnabl.com. Choose your preferred frequency, never run out, and save money on every order. Or pick up the 12-month refill pack (£30) for a full year's supply in one go.
SUSTAINABILITY
How much plastic does switching save?
One Returnabl cartridge replaces approximately 36 disposable filter cartridges over 3 years. Over 845,000 disposable filter cartridges go to UK landfill every single day — switching to Returnabl means you stop contributing to that entirely.
What do I do with the used carbon granules?
Used activated carbon granules can safely go in your general waste bin. Do not pour down the sink or drain.
Is the packaging recyclable?
Yes — the outer cardboard box is fully recyclable. The refill granule pouches are made from food-grade packaging — check your local recycling guidelines for flexible plastic film.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The water flow seems slow — what do I do?
Slow flow is usually caused by air trapped in the carbon granules. Remove the cartridge and soak it in cold water for 5-10 minutes, then rinse under a running tap for 30 seconds. This should restore normal flow. If the problem persists, contact us at support@returnabl.com.
My cartridge is leaking — what do I do?
First check that the rubber seal ring is correctly seated around the cartridge — it can sometimes slip during refilling. Remove the cartridge, reposition the seal, and reinsert. If leaking continues, contact us at support@returnabl.com and we'll send a replacement seal or cartridge.
The water tastes different — is that normal?
A very slight taste difference in the first 1-2 uses is completely normal as the fresh activated carbon settles in. Run 2-3 full jugs of water through before drinking to flush the filter — this resolves it in almost all cases. If the taste issue persists beyond 3 jugs, contact us at support@returnabl.com.
